On October 1-2, 2026, Chernihiv Polytechnic National University hosted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Free/Open Source Software in Education, Science and Business" (FOSS 2026). For security reasons, the event was held online.

Participants were welcomed by Vice-Rector for Research Anatolii Prystupa and Organizing Committee Chair Volodymyr Bazylevych. The conference was supported by the European WIN-WIN EDIH project (grant No. 101191647).

The first day featured keynote talks from leading members of the international open-source community — representatives of Percona, the MariaDB Foundation, Amazon Web Services, and an Oracle ACE Director. Topics included embedding the DuckDB analytics engine into MySQL, new MariaDB features, moving away from proprietary virtualization platforms, the KMIP cryptographic key-management protocol, and analyzing MySQL query execution plans.

The second day brought 13 sectional presentations, including a browser-based STM32 microcontroller simulator developed at Chernihiv Polytechnic, microgrid management optimization using CVXPY, NPU processors for local AI, and building cyber-hygiene skills with open-source tools. Students of our institute's "Computer Engineering" program took an active part.

In total, the conference gathered 82 registered participants from Ukraine, Belgium, Brazil, the Gambia, India and other countries, who submitted 51 abstracts. Recordings of the keynotes are available on the conference's YouTube channel, and a proceedings collection (with ISBN) is expected by the end of October 2026.
